Homi Adajania Takes A Hilarious Dig At ‘Cocktail’ While Praising ‘Cocktail 2’: “I Do Think There Is A Story This Time”

Filmmaker Homi Adajania left everyone laughing at the recent song launch event of Cocktail 2 after making a cheeky remark comparing the original Cocktail with its upcoming spiritual sequel. The director, who reunited with the franchise for the much-anticipated 2026 romantic comedy, candidly spoke about the film’s chemistry, storytelling, and the unique way he captured intimate moments between stars Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon while shooting the song Mashooka in Sicily.

Speaking about the track, Homi revealed that the actors often had no idea when the cameras were rolling, which helped create an effortless and natural chemistry on screen. “Let me tell you something about ‘Mashooka.’ We actually—well, I don't think Shahid and Kriti ever really knew when we were shooting ‘Mashooka.’ And I think that’s exactly why it worked out so well. Because they would simply hop into a car, drive around the beautiful roads of Sicily, and had no idea when we were rolling the cameras—or when we weren't,” Homi shared.

He further explained that the carefree atmosphere allowed the actors to simply enjoy themselves instead of consciously performing for the camera. “And I think when you watch it, you see a lot of them just being themselves and having an absolute blast. So, yeah—I guess the chemistry feels pretty organic rather than something that was merely acted out,” he added. Fans online have already started praising the fresh chemistry between Shahid and Kriti after the release of the song, calling it effortless, breezy, and visually stunning.

However, the biggest laugh at the event came when Homi was asked about the difference between Cocktail 1 and Cocktail 2. The director paused, laughed nervously, and delivered a brutally honest yet hilarious response that instantly went viral. “Between Cocktail 1 and Cocktail 2... Uh, I think—shit. I know, this is just going to go down badly. So I want to just avoid saying anything, but [laughs]... but I do think there is a story in Cocktail 2—uh—which helps it. So, love—and, Luv Ranjan actually wrote a story this time,” Homi joked, leaving the audience in splits.

The playful comment quickly became a talking point on social media, with fans calling it one of the funniest self-aware Bollywood moments in recent times. Many users praised Homi Adajania for openly poking fun at the narrative criticism surrounding the 2012 film while confidently backing the emotional depth of the sequel.
