Bhopal, May 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh met Mohan Yadav at the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's residence in Bhopal on Friday and raised issues related to wheat procurement and farmer difficulties in the state.
During the meeting, Digvijaya Singh highlighted problems being faced at wheat procurement centres, including delays in slot booking, limited procurement capacity, and operational bottlenecks at mandis.
According to a statement from Digvijaya’s office, he urged Chief Minister Yadav to ensure smooth and timely procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) so that farmers are not forced into distress sale.
“Farmers are facing problems at procurement centres. The system must be strengthened so that procurement is smooth and timely,” Singh reportedly told Yadav.
Singh also said that procurement arrangements should be improved so that farmers do not face inconvenience during the peak season.
Meanwhile, Singh also invited the Chief Minister for a religious event – ‘Shri Ram Mahayagya’ scheduled from May 18 to May 28 in his hometown Raghogarh. It is a large religious and community event involving 151 fire rituals over ten days.
The statement added that Singh and his family are patrons of the event, which is expected to see participation from devotees across regions.
The meeting comes at a time when wheat procurement has become a key issue in Madhya Pradesh, with complaints of congestion and delays reported from several districts and the Opposition Congress targeting Chief Minister Yadav on this issue.
The Chief Minister himself started conducting surprise inspections of procurement centres. On Thursday, he made surprise inspections at wheat procurement centers in Shajapur and Khargone districts, where he interacted with farmers and reviewed ground-level arrangements.
He has instructed officials to ensure timely resolution of issues and improve facilities at procurement centres.
