Ahmedabad, April 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) With road congestion continuing to rise across the city, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has reported progress on a large-scale traffic restructuring programme that has already seen 37 junctions developed, while 12 more are under construction as part of a broader plan to upgrade 100 key intersections across the city.
The initiative, focused on easing traffic bottlenecks at high-density junctions, is being implemented in coordination with the city traffic police.
According to civic officials, the planning process includes traffic studies conducted with support from reputed educational institutions, followed by detailed design preparation and clearance from the traffic police before execution of works.
AMC has stated that the programme's objective is to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety at critical junctions.
Work on the remaining identified junctions is continuing in phases, with surveys and design finalisation underway.
Alongside junction redevelopment, the corporation has expanded the ‘Left Turn Free’ system to improve vehicular movement at busy intersections.
The arrangement, which allows vehicles to make uninterrupted left turns without waiting at signals, has been implemented at 76 junctions across the city to reduce signal delays and ease pressure on main carriageways.
Road safety and traffic regulation infrastructure have also been strengthened under the same programme.
The AMC has completed thermoplastic road marking work over an area of 1,19,000 square metres, covering centre lines, kerb lines, zebra crossings, edge lines, and stencil markings.
In addition, around 6,900 traffic signboards have been installed across Ahmedabad, including informational, cautionary, mandatory, and directional signage to improve driver guidance and compliance.
In a parallel review of ongoing traffic measures, a joint meeting was held in the North-West Zone involving senior officials from the AMC and the traffic police.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the Assistant Municipal Commissioner, traffic police inspectors, and officials from the engineering and estate departments.
The discussions focused on progress in junction development, traffic routing on GSLA and BRTS corridors, expansion of free left-turn facilities, removal of encroachments from public roads, and management of designated parking areas.
Officials also reviewed coordination among departments to accelerate the implementation of traffic-related measures and the resolution of operational issues.
The civic body and traffic police are continuing coordinated efforts under the programme, which is being implemented in stages across different zones of the city.
