Ooty (Tamil Nadu), April 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu's scenic Nilgiris district is witnessing a steady surge in tourist arrivals with the onset of the summer holiday season, as thousands flock to the hill station to escape the heat and experience its famed natural beauty.
Every year, especially during April and May, lakhs of visitors from across the country travel to Ooty, popularly known as the "Queen of Hill Stations", to spend their vacations in its cool and pleasant climate.
This year too, the trend has picked up momentum over the past few days, with tourists arriving not only from various parts of Tamil Nadu but also from neighbouring states such as Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
To enhance the appeal of the season, the Nilgiris administration has lined up a series of summer festivals, including flower shows, spice exhibitions, rose displays and fruit fairs, which traditionally draw large crowds.
Among these, the annual flower show at the iconic Government Botanical Garden remains the centrepiece attraction.
Preparations for this year’s flower show are in full swing at the institution.
Officials said more than 40,000 flower pots have been arranged for the exhibition, featuring a vibrant array of blooms such as marigolds, pansies, begonias, salvias, daisies, and dahlias.
These flowers will be artistically displayed across specially designed exhibition halls and pavilions to create visually striking arrangements. Workers are currently engaged in setting up decorative floral pavilions and landscaping the garden to ensure a memorable experience for visitors.
In addition, infrastructure improvements, including the laying of new tiles and the enhancement of pathways, are progressing at a brisk pace.
As part of the revamp, the pond located at the entrance of the park is being transformed into an artificial fountain, while an area designed in the shape of the Indian map and its adjoining steps are also undergoing renovation.
Officials expressed confidence that the ongoing development works will be completed in time for the festival, promising a more elaborate and visually appealing flower show compared to previous years. With favourable weather and festive attractions lined up, the Nilgiris is once again set to emerge as a major summer hotspot, drawing tourists in large numbers in the coming weeks.
