Chaibasa (Jharkhand), April 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves through Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, a 65-year-old woman was brutally beaten to death by her brother-in-law just days after he was released from prison for being convicted of murdering his wife and serving imprisonment, in Kasia village under the Tantnagar OP area of Manjhari police station.
The deceased, identified as Parvati Bhumij, was initially believed to have died of natural causes when her body was discovered inside her room on Monday morning. Family members began preparations for her last rites, unaware of the brutality that she had been subjected to. However, suspicion arose when relatives noticed deep injury marks on her neck and cheeks, prompting fears that her death was not natural.
As doubts grew, a village meeting was convened, where residents collectively decided to inform the police. Acting swiftly, a team from Tantnagar OP reached the village and initiated a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death.
During the preliminary investigation, suspicion fell on the victim’s brother-in-law, Dulai Bhumij, who was present in the village. Police detained him for questioning, and under sustained interrogation, he eventually confessed to committing the murder. Following his disclosure, the police recovered the wooden stick allegedly used to carry out the fatal assault.
The body of Parvati Bhumij has been sent to the Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and the nature of injuries.
Police sources revealed that the accused has a disturbing criminal past. In 2011, Dulai Bhumij murdered his wife, Indravati Bhumij, by attacking her with a grinding stone. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. After serving his sentence, he had recently returned to the village — a development that has now taken a tragic turn.
The motive behind the latest killing remains unclear, and investigators are continuing to question the accused to piece together the sequence of events leading to the crime. The incident has triggered fear and anger among villagers, who are demanding strict action against the accused.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
