Bhopal, April 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madhya Pradesh government has sent a proposal to the Centre seeking an increase in the wheat procurement target under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27, as procurement is expected to exceed the existing target of 7.8 million metric tonnes.
In a late-night post on X, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav shared that the state government has sent a proposal to the Centre. “Given the robust wheat yield in the state and the likelihood of procurement exceeding the target, we have taken up the matter with the Central Government for increasing the procurement quota and are in continuous contact on this issue,” he wrote on X.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that despite initial challenges, including disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict, the state ensured smooth procurement operations by arranging sufficient gunny bags. These include new jute sacks, polypropylene (PP) bags and recycled gunny bags, and officials said there is currently no shortage.
The wheat procurement process began on April 9 in select parts of the state and was expanded across Madhya Pradesh from April 15, after which it picked up pace at procurement centres.
Wheat is being procured at Rs 2,625 per quintal, which includes the MSP of Rs 2,585 per quintal along with a Rs 40 per quintal bonus provided by the state government. The attractive procurement price has encouraged higher farmer participation this year.
According to official figures on Wednesday evening, 1.904 million farmers have registered for wheat procurement under MSP this season, about 300,000 more than last year. So far, 9.51755 million quintals of wheat have been procured from 221,455 farmers across the state.
Out of the total procurement, 7.5 million quintals have already been transported. Payments worth Rs 1,091.33 crore have been disbursed to 106,055 farmers for their produce.
Additionally, 624,235 farmers have booked slots to sell around 26.22 million quintals of wheat, with bookings open until April 30, 2026. The state has set up 3,171 procurement centres, and the daily slot booking capacity has been increased to 2,250 quintals per centre.
