Local body polls: Gujarat Deputy CM alleges hawala misuse to disrupt peace

Banaskantha (Gujarat), April 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Tuesday alleged that attempts were being made to disturb the state’s peace through the misuse of crores of rupees via 'hawala' transactions, and said the people would reject those responsible in the upcoming local self-government elections.

Addressing a ‘Vikas Sankalp Sabha’ in Vadgam in Banaskantha district, Sanghvi said, “The parties attempting to disturb Gujarat’s peace through misuse of crores of rupees via hawala will be wiped out by the people in this election.”

He made the remarks while campaigning in connection with the local polls.

Sanghavi used the occasion to criticise the Congress, stating that during its time in power, even basic facilities such as electricity, water and road infrastructure were not available, whereas these had been ensured under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule.

“Since Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, it has been ensured that citizens receive basic amenities. Free food grains were being provided to those in need," he said.

Referring to development works in the area, he mentioned a new library, appropriate compensation for farmers and a newly constructed bridge near Chhapi village, attributing these to the efforts of local BJP leadership.

He also accused sections of the opposition of creating obstacles to development and attempting to spread caste-based provocation.

“People should not be misled by such negative elements and should reject them in the upcoming elections to strengthen the path of development,” he said, expressing confidence that voters would support what he described as the BJP’s development-oriented politics.

On the prospects of the Congress in the elections, Sanghavi said: “In this local self-government election, Congress will face its weakest result in history and will not win even a single taluka panchayat or district panchayat.”

In a remark about the party’s local presence, he said that at its Vadgam office, “instead of workers, crows can be seen flying.”

During the event, Genabhai Parmar, identified as a leader from the Vankar community and a retired principal, formally joined the BJP in the presence of Sanghavi.
