Bengal polls: CRPF jawan on election duty attempts suicide

Kolkata, April 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan who had come to West Bengal on Assembly election duty attempted suicide in Murshidabad district on Monday.

According to the police, the jawan was rescued from the Shaktipur police station area of the Rejinagar Assembly constituency. He is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A few Central Force personnel who arrived in Shaktipur on election duty have been accommodated at Bazarsau Higher Secondary High School. It is alleged that the head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force’s 142nd Battalion attempted suicide there.

The jawan hails from a state in southern India. He had also done election duty in Assam a month ago. According to a local source, he shot himself with a service rifle. One bullet hit his left shoulder. The bleeding jawan was rescued by his colleagues.

The injured jawan is undergoing treatment at Berhampore Medical College and Hospital. According to hospital sources, his physical condition is stable. However, he has been kept under observation for the time being.

Earlier, a Central Force jawan on Assembly election duty died under mysterious circumstances in Falta of South 24 Parganas district on the night of April 14. The deceased was identified as Kanak Koch.

He was a constable with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. The initial assumption of the police is that he fell from the stairs and died after sustaining severe injuries.

Two days later, a Border Security Force jawan died in a fire at the camp of the 77th Battalion of the Border Security Force at Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas district.

The deceased’s name was Jyotiram Singh.

He was working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector. Jyotiram entered the camp's fuel storage room, and soon the fire broke out.

The fire spread so quickly that the Border Security Force jawan did not get a chance to come out. As a result, he got trapped in the room and died of burns.
