Kolkata, April 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Confusion over the future of Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC)'s West Bengal operations, which surfaced since Sunday, aggravated further later in the day following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's promise of providing jobs to its employees in Kolkata.
Earlier in the day, information surfaced that I-PAC had sent an email communication to the employees of its Kolkata office, informing them about the halt of the West Bengal operations of that entity for 20 days, and also directed the employees to go for a "short leave" for the 20 days.
Within an hour of the time, the information was flashed by different media houses that Trinamool Congress, and not I-PAC, issued a statement denying the information of the temporary halt of its West Bengal operations.
However, while addressing an election campaign at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district on Sunday afternoon, the Chief Minister said that if needed the employees in the I-PAC Kolkata office will join the Trinamool Congress, and they will be provided with jobs.
She also claimed that she had already had a discussion with the party's General Secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, in the matter.
She also warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for targeting the political consultancy firm and accused it of indulging in arm-twisting tactics to win the upcoming Assembly polls in the state scheduled later this month.
The I-PAC had been operating as Trinamool Congress' vote strategy agency for the last few years.
"The Enforcement Directorate is conducting raids every day, and especially during the election? Those people of agencies who work for us are being threatened with leaving the state. You can have so many agencies working for you. What can't we also have? If you scare them, they will join my party, and we will give them jobs. Keep in mind that I will not let a single boy go without a job. I spoke to Abhishek Banerjee this morning on the matter... Let me be clear, this is a conspiracy. How much more lawlessness will you do, how many more votes will you cut? After that, you will do the NRC," the Chief Minister said.
She also accused the BJP-led Union government of targeting her security officers and lawyers through the central investigation agency.
"Trinamool leaders' houses are being raided. But why aren't raids conducted at any BJP leader's house? The ED raided the house of the one who takes care of my income tax. Debashish Kumar's (Trinamool Congress candidate) house was raided for hours. They wasted an entire day and didn't let him campaign. We are recording all of it and will file a case. The person who takes care of my security, his house is being raided. Do you want to kill me? If you can kill Me and win Bengal? Try once. The CPI-M tried and failed. Now all the rotten CPI-M ones are in your party now," the Chief Minister said.
She also targeted the BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari without naming him directly, saying why his house was not being raided.
"The biggest thief is a traitor. Why won't his (referring to Suvendu Adhikari) house be raided? Why won't his brother's house be raided? Why won't his father's house be raided?" Chief Minister Banerjee said.
