‘Glory’ Is Pure Fiction, Not Political or Based on Real People, Says Karan Anshuman at Trailer Launch

At the trailer launch of Glory, creator Karan Anshuman addressed growing speculation around the series’ inspiration, firmly stating that the Netflix drama is entirely fictional and not based on any real-life individual or political narrative.

Speaking to the media alongside the ensemble cast, Karan clarified the intent behind the story and its creative process. When asked whether the series draws from real incidents or specific personalities, he responded in detail: “Actually, our story is entirely fictional. We were not inspired by any specific real-life incidents. There isn't a single character here who exists in reality, nor are we making any statements about a specific individual. That said—yes, there are countless stories like this in Haryana. And in everything we do—whenever we write—we draw from the people around us; I would go so far as to say we "steal" their lives. That is, after all, what writing is all about—isn't it?”

 

He further explained the research process behind the series, highlighting how real-world conversations shaped the emotional texture of the script: “We pick up on little incidents here and there. We spoke with coaches; we spoke with numerous winners and champions, as well as with those who never got their chance—those who missed out on the opportunity. We spoke with people across the entire spectrum—including the families who travel from far-flung places like Patna, Bihar, bringing their 10 or 12-year-old children to Haryana with the firm belief that, "My child is going to become a champion." We wanted to understand what goes on inside their minds. We spoke with these people, and you will find traces of that reality—little bits and pieces—sprinkled throughout our entire script.”

 

Karan emphasized that despite these influences, the show remains firmly rooted in fiction and avoids political interpretation: “So, it isn't about any one person in particular; it is definitely not political; it is very much a family-oriented story, deeply focused on the sport itself, and centered on individuals who—while deeply human—remain entirely fictional characters”

 

Produced as a gritty sports-crime thriller, Glory is set within the boxing circuit of Haryana and revolves around the mysterious death of a champion boxer. The story follows two brothers who return home to investigate the case, only to find themselves entangled in a web of family tension, ambition, and unresolved past conflicts with their strict coach father.

 

The series features an ensemble cast including Divyenndu, Pulkit Samrat, Suvinder Vicky, Jannat Zubair, and Ashutosh Rana. Set to stream from May 1, the show is already generating buzz for its intense storytelling and layered emotional themes.

 

By blending sports, crime, and family drama, Glory aims to explore ambition and loss without anchoring itself to any real-world controversy—something its creator is keen to make absolutely clear.
