During a recent media interaction, Yash opened up about the philosophy behind his character and how he approached the legendary role. He emphasized that Ravana is not a one-dimensional villain, but a layered personality driven by his own beliefs and perspective.
He said, “I think we are all very familiar with this world because we’ve grown up listening to these stories. It has always been part of our culture and belief system. So it’s not something new that we need to break down like a completely unfamiliar story. But most importantly, every character has their own point of view, and most of the time, whatever they do, they believe they are right. That is the most important aspect. Even in today’s world, anyone doing anything is guided by their perspective. In a way, all of us feel we are right from our own point of view.”
Yash further explained that Ramayana is not just a simple battle between good and evil, but a deeper exploration of belief, ego, and karma. He highlighted how even the most powerful individuals are shaped by their actions and judgments.
He added, “Ramayana is not just about a good guy and a bad guy. It also tells you that you might be the greatest in everything—you might have all the skills, knowledge, and mastery—but still, your judgment and actions matter. That is what we call karma. It is very important to understand that. I followed the director’s vision and Namit Malhotra’s creative direction closely, and as an actor I also brought my own interpretation. But ultimately, I believe every character acts based on what they think is right. That is what makes Ravana such a layered character. I always wanted to play a role like this in Ramayana.”
He further reflected on Ravana’s complexity, saying the character is driven by conviction rather than pure evil. According to him, Ravana’s actions are shaped by his belief in his cause and his responsibility toward his people, even if his methods are flawed.
Yash concluded, “Ravana believes in many things. He is fighting for his people, and in his mind, his cause is noble. But as always, there is a very thin line between confidence and arrogance. That is what makes the character so unique in this film.”
Backed by Namit Malhotra and Yash himself, Ramayana is being mounted as a large-scale cinematic universe. The film is scheduled for a grand Diwali 2026 release, and expectations continue to rise as audiences await this reimagining of one of India’s greatest epics.
