Ambedkar Jayanti: Stalin calls for defending Constitution, upholding social justice and pluralism

Chennai, April 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday issued a strong message urging citizens to defend the Constitution, uphold social justice, and protect the rights of the oppressed, while reaffirming India’s commitment to pluralism.

He was speaking at an event organised to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B. R. Ambedkar.

Stalin quoted Ambedkar’s enduring words, “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved.”

Stalin, in a post on X, highlighted that the true measure of a society’s advancement lies in the empowerment and upliftment of women. He emphasised that inclusive development and gender equality must remain at the heart of governance and public policy.

In his Ambedkar Jayanti message, Stalin called upon people to strengthen their resolve to safeguard constitutional values and ensure justice for marginalised communities.

He stressed that protecting the Constitution is essential to preserving democracy and maintaining the rights and dignity of every citizen, particularly those who have historically faced discrimination and exclusion.

Underscoring India’s diversity, Stalin asserted that the nation’s strength lies in its pluralistic fabric, not in any imposed uniformity. He cautioned against attempts to dilute this diversity, stating that unity must be built on respect for differences rather than enforced sameness.

“If progress is the benchmark,” Stalin noted, “we must reject hierarchy and discrimination, and instead choose pluralism and equality.”

He called for a collective commitment to building a society rooted in fairness, inclusiveness, and justice, in line with Ambedkar’s vision.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came at a time when debates around social equity, representation, and constitutional safeguards continue to shape public discourse across the country.

Observers noted that his message reflects a broader political emphasis on reinforcing the principles enshrined by Ambedkar in modern India.

As the nation commemorates the legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Stalin’s call serves as a reminder of the continued relevance of his ideals. The emphasis on women’s progress, social justice, and pluralism underscores the need to build a more equitable society where every voice is heard and every citizen is empowered.
