Actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood has once again used his voice to highlight a critical public safety issue following a tragic boat accident in Mathura. Taking to social media, the actor expressed grief and frustration over the recurring incidents of boat mishaps across the country, urging authorities to implement stricter safety measures to prevent further loss of life.

 

Sharing his thoughts, Sonu Sood wrote, “Time and again, we’ve seen boat tragedies across our country. Yet again, lives lost in Mathura (10). In the past year alone, dozens of innocent people have died in similar accidents, most of them preventable, most without life jackets. Why can’t we make this a simple rule?
No boat ride, no matter how short, without life jackets for all.
Every trip should begin with a photo of all passengers wearing life jackets, uploaded to a central portal. No upload must mean strict action. These aren’t just accidents… these are lives we could have saved.”

 

The statement comes after a devastating incident on April 10, 2026, when a boat carrying around 30 pilgrims from Punjab capsized in the Yamuna River near Keshi Ghat in Mathura. Reports suggest the boat collided with a pontoon bridge, leading to the deaths of 10 people, while several others were rescued. Overcrowding and the absence of life jackets have been cited as major factors behind the tragedy, once again exposing gaps in basic safety enforcement.

 

Sonu Sood’s proposal is both practical and urgent—making life jackets compulsory for every passenger, regardless of the journey’s length, and ensuring accountability through a digital verification system. His idea of uploading pre-departure images to a central portal aims to create a transparent and enforceable system that could deter negligence and save lives.
