Lucknow, April 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a significant step towards strengthening the educational framework, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved a hike in the honorarium for ‘Shikshamitras’ (para-teachers) and part-time instructors.
The hike in honorarium, which will directly benefit lakhs of education personnel across the state and strengthen the education system, will be implemented from this month only, effective from April 1.
According to an official statement, the honorarium for Shikshamitras has been raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000, while for part-time instructors, it has been increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000.
The revised honorarium rates will come into effect starting from April and will be reflected in the payments disbursed in May.
Over 1.43 lakh ‘Shikshamitras’ are set to benefit from it.
Sharing details of the Cabinet's decision, the Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh stated that there are currently 1,42,929 Shikshamitras employed across the state. Of these, the honorarium for 1,29,332 Shikshamitras was previously received from the Central government under the 'Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan' (Comprehensive Education Campaign) in a 60:40 ratio.
Under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, the state government will bear the additional expenditure of Rs 1,138.12 crore resulting from the increased honorarium.
Furthermore, regarding the remaining 13,597 Shiksha Mitras, whose remuneration is funded entirely by the state government, the State administration will also shoulder the additional financial burden of Rs 119.65 crore.
He further said that significant relief has been extended to part-time instructors.
The monthly honorarium for part-time instructors, which was fixed at Rs 9,000 in 2017, has now been increased to Rs 17,000. Currently, 24,717 part-time instructors are employed across 13,769 upper primary schools within the state.
He clarified that the revised honorarium will come into effect from April 1, and the increase will be reflected in payments disbursed in May.
The decision is estimated to impose an additional financial burden totalling over Rs 1,475.27 crore on the state government. The decision was taken in pursuance of the announcement made by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the first session of the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
