The last rites were held on March 29 at the Chandanwadi Crematorium, where several well-known personalities were seen in attendance. Among those present were Dino Morea, Anil Thadani, Shania NC, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reflecting the wide influence Singhania had across different spheres.
A visionary leader, Singhania helmed the Raymond Group from 1980 to 2000, transforming it from a modest woollen blanket manufacturer into a globally recognised textile powerhouse. Under his leadership, the brand became synonymous with sophistication and quality, most notably through its iconic “The Complete Man” identity.
Beyond business, Singhania was also celebrated for his passion for aviation. In 2005, he set a world record for achieving the highest altitude in a hot air balloon, reaching an astonishing 69,852 feet. Years earlier, in 1988, he completed a remarkable solo microlight flight from London to Delhi—an achievement that showcased his adventurous spirit and determination.
His contributions to industry and adventure earned him the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2006, along with the honorary rank of Air Commodore by the Indian Air Force. He also served as the Sheriff of Mumbai between 2006 and 2007, further cementing his role as a respected public figure.
In his later years, Singhania’s life saw a deeply personal and widely discussed chapter involving a legal dispute with his son, Gautam Singhania, following the transfer of his stake in the company. He candidly documented his journey, including these struggles, in his autobiography An Incomplete Life.
As tributes continue to pour in, Vijaypat Singhania is remembered not just as a business magnate, but as a man of vision, courage, and resilience—someone who lived life on his own terms and left an indelible mark on multiple worlds.
