‘Nothing Is Above the Sentiments of My People’: Badshah Pulls Down ‘Tateeree’ After Massive Backlash

'Nothing Is Above the Sentiments of My People': Badshah Pulls Down 'Tateeree' After Massive Backlash

Rapper Badshah has issued a public apology and removed his recently released song Tateeree from all platforms after it sparked strong backlash over alleged offensive lyrics targeting Haryanvi sentiments.

The controversy erupted soon after the track’s release on March 1, 2026, when several listeners objected to a line that was perceived as disrespectful toward women. The backlash quickly intensified online, prompting complaints and even official action from the Haryana State Commission for Women, which reportedly summoned the rapper following the outrage. An FIR was also filed in Panchkula, demanding a ban on the track.

Amid the escalating controversy, Badshah released a video statement on social media addressing the issue and announcing that the song had been taken down. In the video, he said, “My new song Tateeree has been released, and I’ve noticed that a part of my lyrics and its visual representation has conveyed a message that has hurt the sentiments of many people, especially people from Haryana. First of all, I want to say that I myself am from Haryana. Those who know me are aware that my language, my food, my lifestyle, and my identity come from Haryana. I am a proud Haryanvi. I never had any intention or purpose of saying anything inappropriate about any child or woman from Haryana.”

Explaining the creative context behind the lyrics, the rapper added, “I come from the hip-hop genre, where lyrics are often aimed at putting down competitors. They are directed at rivals. It was never meant for any woman or child, and I would never do that. I have always tried to carry Haryana’s culture with me wherever I go. If anyone has been hurt, I sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart. I hope you will forgive me, considering me as a son of Haryana—your own son.”

The controversy has sparked a broader debate on social media about the limits of artistic freedom in hip-hop and the responsibility artists carry when representing regional culture. Critics argue that provocative lyrics in mainstream music can easily cross cultural boundaries, while supporters of Badshah say the backlash reflects misunderstandings about the competitive style traditionally used in rap.

Despite the criticism, the rapper’s decision to remove “Tateeree” and publicly apologise appears to be an attempt to de-escalate tensions and reaffirm his connection with his home state of Haryana. Meanwhile, the incident continues to fuel discussions about accountability, cultural respect, and the evolving landscape of Indian hip-hop.
