Cong's claims on SIR baseless, trust ECI's impartial process: BJP legislator

Jaipur, Jan 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Hawa Mahal Swami Balmukundacharya Maharaj has dismissed the claims made by Congress leaders regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as baseless and misleading.

He asserted that the SIR is being conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI), a constitutional body, with complete fairness and transparency to ensure clean and accurate voter lists.

Swami Balmukundacharya Maharaj said the objective of the SIR process is to remove duplicate entries, names of deceased persons, and ineligible outsiders from the voter list.

He noted that the same Election Commission has conducted by-elections in Rajasthan transparently, where both the BJP and the Congress secured victories. “If the Commission were biased, Congress would not have won even a single seat. Repeated false allegations will not benefit Congress,” he said.

Taking a sharp dig at the opposition, the BJP MLA said that Congress’s opposition to SIR stems from the fear of illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators losing their votes, which explains the party’s desperation.

He questioned why Congress objects to action against those allegedly residing illegally while availing government schemes and benefits.

“Casting aspersions on constitutional institutions is irresponsible,” he said, adding that the BJP earns public trust through work and service.

He clarified that no political leader has the authority to remove names from the voter list, as this power rests solely with the Election Commission.

“Anyone who presents valid documents has nothing to fear -- no eligible voter’s name will be deleted,” he said, urging Congress leaders to cooperate in purifying electoral rolls. Supporting fake voters, he added, goes against national interest.

Citing examples from the Hawamahal Assembly constituency, Swami Balmukundacharya Maharaj pointed to serious anomalies in voter records.

He claimed that dozens of voters are registered at addresses where no one resides, including cases where 39 voters are listed at a 50-square-yard house, and instances where individuals aged 105–107 years are registered despite not residing there. “These discrepancies reflect the legacy of fraudulent practices,” he alleged.

The MLA reiterated that bogus voting, multiple registrations across states, and illegal beneficiaries undermine democracy and must be corrected. He clarified that it is lawful for women to update voter registration after marriage based on their place of residence.

Concluding, Swami Balmukundacharya Maharaj said the BJP does not practise appeasement politics. “Whether Ram or Rahim, serving the people is our religion,” he said, adding that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Rajasthan is witnessing all-round development.

He claimed that in two years of BJP rule, the Congress has failed to raise any substantive issue or cite a single instance of corruption.
