MAMI Mumbai Film Festival Announces Third Edition of 'MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone'

The Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), organizers of the prestigious MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, has officially announced the third edition of its acclaimed initiative, MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone. The announcement was made through the festival’s official social media handle, reinforcing MAMI’s continued commitment to championing independent filmmaking and diverse voices from across India.

Building on the success of its previous editions, MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone will once again provide a unique platform for four promising filmmakers to create 20–40 minute short films across four Indian languages—Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Malayalam. The filmmakers will be selected through an open call for entries, encouraging participation from storytellers across the country.

What makes this initiative truly special is its distinguished mentorship panel, featuring some of India’s most respected filmmakers. The third edition will see Sriram Raghavan mentoring Hindi projects, Dibakar Banerjee guiding Bengali films, Geetu Mohandas mentoring Malayalam entries, and Chaitanya Tamhane supporting Marathi filmmakers. This rare opportunity allows emerging creators to learn directly from maverick storytellers who have shaped contemporary Indian cinema.

As part of the program, each selected filmmaker will receive an iPhone 17 Pro Max to shoot their film and a MacBook Pro for editing, enabling them to explore cinematic storytelling using cutting-edge technology. From pre-production to post-production, the mentors will guide participants in pushing creative boundaries while working within a short-film format.

According to the official press note, the initiative aims to blend artistic vision with technological innovation, empowering filmmakers to tell impactful stories with minimal resources but maximum creative freedom. The focus remains firmly on originality, authenticity, and diverse perspectives.

Once completed, the four short films will premiere at a special screening event, after which they will be released on the official MAMI YouTube channel, ensuring wide accessibility and strong audience engagement beyond the festival circuit.

The deadline for submission is January 4, 2026, making this a must-watch opportunity for aspiring filmmakers looking to showcase their talent on a national platform. With its impressive mentor lineup and continued support for independent cinema, MAMI Select: Filmed on iPhone continues to be one of the most exciting initiatives in the Indian film festival ecosystem.
