Protector follows Nikki (Jovovich), a former war hero who’s traded combat boots for a quiet life with her daughter, Chloe. Cue disaster: Chloe is kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, thrusting Nikki back into a brutal underworld she hoped she’d never revisit. Armed with elite training, she barrels through a crime syndicate so violently that she winds up hunted by both police and military, landing squarely on everyone’s most-wanted list. It’s a race-against-time rescue mission packed with fists, firepower, and one mother who absolutely refuses to quit.
The cast includes Isabel Myers, Manny Montana, Michael Stahl-David, Lydia Hull, D.B. Sweeney, Don Harvey, Gabriel Sloyer, Chase E. Kim, Texas Battle, Arica Himmel, and Matthew Modine—an ensemble built for gritty tension. Director Adrian Grunberg, known for Get the Gringo, Rambo: Last Blood, and more recent series like Bandidos, is back in familiar territory: bruises, bullets, and broken bones. The screenplay comes from Bong-Seob Mun, with an impressively long list of producers, including Jovovich herself and Paul W.S. Anderson.
But despite the stacked team, the trailer is getting side-eye—mainly because it’s so dark that viewers can barely make out the action. Combine that with a plot that treads heavily familiar ground, and some are wondering if Protector has enough fresh energy to stand out in the genre.
Still, Jovovich in full vengeance mode? That alone might draw action fans to theaters when Protector lands on February 20th, 2026. Whether the film delivers the punch its premise promises—or simply stays lost in the shadows—remains to be seen.
