The move is a game-changer. Tumbbad, first released in 2018, was praised for its haunting visuals and layered mythology, grossing over ₹20 crore against its modest ₹7 crore budget. After a surprising 2024 re-release that added ₹10.5 crore, the film cemented itself as a cult modern horror classic. The upcoming sequel, however, scales up dramatically with a ₹150 crore budget under Pen Studios’ banner, known for mega-productions like RRR and Gangubai Kathiawadi.

 

While Rahi Anil Barve helmed the first film, Tumbbad 2 will see Adesh Prasad, who co-wrote the original, step into the director’s chair. With six years of work poured into the script, fans can expect a sequel that retains the soul of the original while promising larger-than-life scale and storytelling.
