Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the comedy film is a standalone sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar. Produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N.R. Pachisia, and Pravin Talreja, the film features Ajay Devgn in the lead, supported by Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra. It also marks the posthumous release of actor Mukul Dev, adding an emotional layer to its release.
The story follows a man who pretends to be a war hero in order to help a couple win over their disapproving parents—a setup infused with situational humor, mistaken identities, and high-energy Punjabi flair. Shot across international and Indian locations including Edinburgh, London, and Chandigarh, the film promised scale and entertainment but struggled to deliver at the box office.
After facing delays from its initial July 25 release date, the film was eventually released theatrically on August 1, 2025, where it unfortunately received negative reviews and turned into a box office disaster. Despite that, its arrival on Netflix opens up a new opportunity for audiences who missed it in theaters to experience the comedy sequel from the comfort of home.
With Ajay Devgn returning to his Sardaar role more than a decade later, the digital release may give Son of Sardaar 2 a second shot at connecting with fans who cherished the first film.
