"Lokah Has Made History": Dulquer Salmaan Celebrates Record-Breaking Run of Malayalam Superhero Saga

In a moment that has rewritten the record books of Malayalam cinema, actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan took to social media to share the triumph of Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, the genre-bending superhero film that has now become the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film. In his post, he wrote: “#Lokah has made history as the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film and an Industry Hit. A milestone powered by pure teamwork. Grateful to the team & the audience for this unforgettable journey. #KothaLokah”

The film, headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, has crossed a staggering ₹266 crore globally, dethroning Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan to claim the top spot. With ₹96.28 crore earned in Kerala alone within just 23 days and a remarkable $12.75 million from overseas markets, Lokah didn’t just set records—it shattered long-held norms. It's the first-ever female-led Malayalam film to reach "industry hit" status, a term reserved for titles that rewrite a region’s box office benchmarks.

Produced by Dulquer's Wayfarer Films, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is more than a commercial success—it's a statement. By anchoring the story around a female superhero and blending rural Indian folklore with genre cinema, the film opened new storytelling doors. At a time when superhero fatigue has hit even global markets, Lokah's originality and rootedness won over fans worldwide. Kalyani’s powerful performance, combined with Jakes Bejoy’s pulsating music and Nimish Ravi’s stunning cinematography, brought both grit and grace to the screen.

Critics and audiences alike have praised the film for pushing boundaries—not just in terms of genre but in representation. Lokah isn’t a one-off—it’s positioned as the launch of a larger cinematic universe, an MCU-style Malayalam mythology-meets-superhero world. With pan-Indian appeal, dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, and global box office traction, Lokah signals that Indian cinema is no longer waiting for permission to dream big—it already is.

As celebrations continue, Lokah stands tall not just as a box office behemoth, but as a turning point in Malayalam and Indian cinema, where storytelling, scale, and inclusivity are no longer mutually exclusive. And with Dulquer Salmaan leading the charge behind the scenes, it’s clear that this universe has only just begun.
