Dia Mirza Celebrates World Ozone Day with a Powerful Message on Global Cooperation and Climate Action

Actor and environmental advocate Dia Mirza took to social media on World Ozone Day (September 16) to share an inspiring message about the power of international collaboration in reversing environmental damage. Highlighting the Montreal Protocol as a beacon of success, she wrote, “The ozone layer makes our planet habitable. This day reminds us that international collaboration can succeed! The Montreal Protocol exemplifies how cooperation can repair atmospheric damage.”

 

Her post emphasizes how the 1987 treaty, the Montreal Protocol, led to the phase-out of nearly 99% of ozone-depleting substances like CFCs. According to a 2025 UN report, the ozone layer’s recovery is now ahead of schedule, and it is expected to return to 1980s levels by mid-century — a crucial achievement that, per EPA estimates, could prevent millions of cases of skin cancer and protect biodiversity across the planet.

 

Mirza, who has long been a vocal supporter of sustainable development and climate action, urged her followers to reflect on humanity’s relationship with nature. “Together, we can repair our broken relationship with nature,” she added, using hashtags like #ActOnClimate, #BeatPollution, #WorldOzoneDay, and #ForPeopleForPlanet to amplify the urgency of global environmental goals such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Beyond her activism, Dia Mirza continues to lead a fulfilling personal life. She married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021 and is a mother to Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, who was born prematurely in May 2021 and spent two months in NICU. Mirza has also embraced her role as stepmother to Samaira Rekhi, Vaibhav’s daughter from a previous marriage — often advocating for conscious parenting and eco-friendly lifestyles.
