Rupali Ganguly Speaks Out on Supreme Court Stray Dog Order And Jaya Bachchan Incident

Actress and vocal animal rights advocate Rupali Ganguly has publicly expressed her deep concern over the Supreme Court’s recent directive mandating the detainment of stray dogs in Delhi and NCR, calling the order “baseless” and urging the Chief Justice of India to reconsider.

 

In an emotional appeal, Ganguly said: “I am praying, I am just praying every day, that somehow the Chief Justice of India revokes this order because it is totally baseless and it doesn’t have any meaning whatsoever. With due respects to the Supreme Court — please revoke this order.”

 

The controversial order, passed on August 11, 2025, instructs authorities in Delhi and the National Capital Region to capture, leash, and permanently remove stray dogs from public spaces, citing safety concerns. The ruling has triggered a nationwide debate, dividing citizens between concerns for public safety and animal welfare.

 

Ganguly, known for her compassion toward animals, joins a growing list of public figures who have condemned the ruling for lacking empathy and foresight in managing stray populations, arguing that mass detention is not a humane or sustainable solution. Her comments echo larger questions about urban coexistence, sterilization programs, and ethical governance.

 

Rupali also addressed the recent viral video involving Jaya Bachchan, in which the veteran actress was seen visibly annoyed at a fan who attempted to take a selfie with her. While choosing her words carefully, Ganguly recalled her personal connection to Bachchan’s earlier work: “Jaya Bachchan did Kora Kagaz with my father, and he won a National Award for the film. Watching her role in Kora Kagaz, I learned acting initially. I hope one shouldn’t learn such kind of behavior from her.”

 

Her remark, while respectful, highlights a sense of disappointment in the public conduct of a senior industry figure who once served as an artistic inspiration.

 

Ganguly’s dual commentary — on animal rights and celebrity responsibility — underscores a deeper concern about compassion, both toward animals and fans, in an increasingly polarized and impatient society.
