Mohanlal Pays Tribute to Rajinikanth on 50 Years in Cinema, Highlights Upcoming Film “Coolie”

Legendary actor Mohanlal recently took to social media to celebrate the incredible milestone of Rajinikanth's 50 years in the film industry. Posting a heartfelt message, Mohanlal wrote, "Fifty years of unmatched charisma, dedication, and magic on screen! Congratulations to the one and only @rajinikanth sir on this monumental milestone. Here’s to #Coolie and many more iconic moments ahead." The tribute honors Rajinikanth’s debut in the 1975 Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal and acknowledges his evolution into a cultural icon beloved by millions.

 

Fans across India have been celebrating this golden anniversary with immense enthusiasm. Notably, in Madurai, a temple was adorned with 5,500 photos of Rajinikanth, paying homage to his legendary career. The celebrations reflect the actor’s unparalleled influence and the deep connection he shares with his audience over five decades.

 

Adding to the excitement around this milestone is the upcoming release of Coolie, Rajinikanth’s 171st film, scheduled to hit theaters on August 14, 2025. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film carries a nostalgic tribute to Rajinikanth’s earlier "coolie" roles, especially from the cult classic Mullum Malarum (1978). With a hefty budget of 200 crore, Coolie promises to blend the nostalgic charm of Rajinikanth’s past with contemporary filmmaking magic.

 

Mohanlal’s post also hints at the rare and much-anticipated on-screen pairing of these two South Indian superstars. The collaboration follows Mohanlal’s cameo in Rajinikanth’s recent blockbuster Jailer (2023), which was widely praised by fans and critics alike.
