"I'll Start a Goti League!": Salman Khan Brings Nostalgia and Star Power to World Padel League Launch

Trust Salman Khan to steal the show with a mic and a flash of mischief. The Bollywood megastar made a surprise appearance at the World Padel League (WPL) Season 3 kick-off conference in Mumbai—and while everyone came to talk padel, Salman had his own league ideas in mind.

“If I were to start a league, I will start a Goti-League… Kancche, Gilli-Dand league,” he said, triggering laughter and nostalgia in equal measure. “Remember we used to hit one another with tennis ball… Aabu-Dhubi, Chain Cook league, Hide and Seek league, Chor Police League,” he added, listing childhood games with a glint of excitement. “I am interested in all them leagues. And if there are educated people—I’m sure plenty are—for them I’d like to start a Doctor-Doctor league.”

While his league suggestions may never make it to prime-time TV, Salman’s presence certainly lit up the launch event. He was there in support of his brother Sohail Khan, who was officially introduced as the new owner of the WPL team Khan Tigers—a fresh entrant in the rapidly growing padel scene. The league, co-founded by Indian tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi, has been gaining steady traction with each season, and now, with a Khan in the mix, it’s dialed up both glamour and buzz.

Running from August 12 to 16 at the NESCO Center in Goregaon, Mumbai, Season 3 of the WPL promises intense racket action, with international talent and Bollywood backing making it one of the hottest sports-meets-entertainment events this Independence Week.

While padel courts heat up in Mumbai, fans can’t help but imagine what a Chor Police League hosted by Salman Khan might actually look like. One thing’s for sure—there’d be no shortage of drama.
