Ron Howard’s Eden Trailer Drops: A Star-Studded Survival Thriller Set in the Galapagos

Vertical has officially released the first trailer for Eden, a gripping survival thriller directed by Academy Award-winner Ron Howard. Set against the raw, unforgiving backdrop of the Galapagos Islands, the film explores human nature, isolation, and the thin line between idealism and madness. Based on true events, Eden assembles a powerhouse cast including Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, Ana de Armas, Daniel Brühl, Sydney Sweeney, Felix Kammerer, and Toby Wallace.

 

The story begins in 1929, when Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) and his partner Dora Strauch (Vanessa Kirby) abandon Germany and its bourgeois trappings for a radical experiment in self-sufficiency on the remote island of Floreana. Friedrich intends to write a philosophical manifesto, while Dora seeks healing from multiple sclerosis through isolation and meditation. Their vision of paradise, however, is disrupted as more settlers arrive, each with their own dreams—and baggage.

 

Among them are Margaret (Sydney Sweeney) and Heinz Wittmer (Daniel Brühl), an earnest couple eager to embrace off-grid living. But tensions mount with the arrival of the flamboyant Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas), who envisions turning Floreana into a luxury destination. With her come two lovers, a servant, and chaos cloaked in charm. As harsh elements, food scarcity, and rising hostilities take hold, the island’s fragile social fabric begins to unravel.

 

Eden promises an intense character study of ambition, desperation, and survival. The screenplay, written by Noah Park, draws from the historical mystery that surrounds the real-life Floreana settlers, many of whom met mysterious or violent ends. With Howard at the helm and a richly talented cast, the film aims to delve deep into both the beauty and brutality of human nature.

 

Eden is set to hit theaters on August 22, 2025.
