Razy Ghai on Making 120 Bahadur: "I Grew Up with War Films, But Never Saw Them Done Properly"

Director Razneesh “Razy” Ghai, best known for his work on Dhaakad, is returning to the director’s chair with a deeply personal and ambitious project — 120 Bahadur, a war film based on the legendary Battle of Rezang La. During the teaser launch of the film, Razy opened up about his lifelong connection to war stories and what motivated him to take on this epic tale of bravery and sacrifice.

Speaking to the press, Razy said, “I grew up with war movies and western classics, wild west movies, and my father was in the army, so I take it very seriously. Because when I was growing up, I didn’t see too many war films done properly.” His words reflect both nostalgia and a critical perspective, rooted in the need for authenticity and respect when portraying real-life heroism on screen.

Razy, who has been part of the industry for over 35 years, emphasized that 120 Bahadur is the result of his cumulative experience. “So, I have used all my experience to shoot this war film to the best of my ability. And we’ve got a great crew, and they have done a fabulous job, so I think you all will be happy.” The director’s conviction was matched by a teaser that showed glimpses of raw battle sequences, emotional depth, and a heavy sense of reverence for the soldiers it depicts.

120 Bahadur, produced by Excel Entertainment and Trigger Happy Studios, recounts the Battle of Rezang La fought on November 18, 1962, during the Sino-Indian War. The film tells the story of 120 Ahir soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment, led by Major Shaitan Singh, who defended their post against a 3,000-strong Chinese force in Ladakh. The staggering resistance they mounted — inflicting over 1,300 casualties — has become a symbol of courage in Indian military history.

With the film set to release on November 21, 2025, Razy Ghai hopes to not just entertain but also educate and honor. His approach combines cinematic flair with grounded storytelling — giving a voice to one of the most heroic and lesser-known chapters of India’s past.
