Good Deed Entertainment has released the official trailer for Looking Through Water, a heartfelt family drama directed by Roberto Sneider (Instructions Not Included), with a screenplay by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War) and Rowdy Herrington (Road House). The film is adapted from two works by author Bob Rich — his memoir Fish Fights and the novel Looking Through the Water — and is slated for theatrical release on September 12, 2025.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Puerto Rico, Looking Through Water tells the emotionally layered story of a fractured father-son relationship trying to mend itself during a competitive fishing tournament. What begins as an awkward attempt at reconnection soon becomes an emotional deep-dive into generational trauma, unspoken regrets, and the difficult love that binds fathers and sons — whether they want it to or not.

In a compelling bit of casting, Looking Through Water features real-life father and son Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas portraying the same character at different stages in life. The decision adds a poignant meta-layer to the film, allowing the audience to watch a fictional dynamic unfold with the weight of real-life parallels in the background. The supporting cast includes Michael Stahl-David, David Morse, Ximena Romo, and rising star Walker Scobell.

The trailer promises a stirring mix of humor, tension, and emotional reckoning, set amidst the peaceful — yet metaphorically charged — activity of fishing. Scenes of sun-drenched water, quiet conversations, and emotionally volatile moments reveal a film that is as much about healing as it is about confrontation.

Woven through flashbacks and present-day struggles, the story doesn't shy away from the messiness of male vulnerability, fatherly expectations, and the search for personal redemption. The competition itself becomes a device through which past wounds surface, resentments are unpacked, and — maybe — forgiveness is found.

Looking Through Water looks to follow in the footsteps of intergenerational dramas like A River Runs Through It and The Judge, offering a cinematic space for quiet heartbreak and earned catharsis. With the pedigree of its cast and the authenticity of its source material, the film is already gaining early awards buzz and is expected to strike a chord with audiences seeking depth and emotional honesty.
