Trailer Drops for American Sweatshop, a Gritty Social Media Thriller Starring Lili Reinhart

Brainstorm Media has released the official trailer for American Sweatshop, an indie thriller that dives deep into the psychological and moral toll of modern internet culture. Directed by Uta Briesewitz (Westworld, The Deuce) and written by Matthew Nemeth, the film stars Lili Reinhart in a career-shifting role as Daisy Moriarty, a social media moderator whose job — and life — spiral into darkness.

 

The story follows Daisy, a woman already reeling from a tumultuous personal life, who spends her days deleting the internet’s worst content — violent imagery, hate speech, and disturbing footage — all from behind a screen. But when she stumbles across a video she believes shows a real crime, her moral compass kicks in. Abandoning the safety of her anonymous role, Daisy begins an obsessive investigation that pulls her into a world more dangerous than anything she's moderated online.

 

Starring alongside Reinhart are Daniela Melchior, Jeremy Ang Jones, Josh Whitehouse, Tim Plester, Christiane Paul, and Joel Fry. The film explores themes of digital desensitization, ethical burnout, and the growing disconnect between online personas and real-life consequences. It’s a timely examination of how internet moderation — often treated as invisible labor — can have deep psychological costs and chilling real-world implications.

 

American Sweatshop is slated for release on September 19th, 2025. With its tense atmosphere and urgent subject matter, it promises to be a haunting, thought-provoking addition to the tech-noir genre.
