Apple TV Unveils Trailer for Paul Greengrass' Wildfire Thriller The Lost Bus

Apple TV has dropped the gripping trailer for The Lost Bus, a harrowing forest fire thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips). Based on true events and inspired by Lizzie Johnson’s book Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, the film stars Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and newcomer Spencer Watson.

The Lost Bus chronicles the events of California’s devastating 2018 Camp Fire — one of the deadliest wildfires in U.S. history. The story centers on a wayward school bus driver (McConaughey) and a resolute teacher (Ferrera) as they fight against time, flames, and chaos to save 22 schoolchildren from being trapped in the inferno. The trailer teases a high-stakes blend of emotional intensity and real-time suspense, with Greengrass’ trademark tension-filled direction taking center stage.

The screenplay, co-written by Greengrass and Mare of Easttown's Brad Ingelsby, adapts the raw, journalistic detail of Johnson’s book into a cinematic experience that captures both the large-scale destruction of the wildfire and the intimate heroism of everyday people caught in crisis.

With its October 3rd release date, The Lost Bus is already generating early awards buzz, promising a mix of emotional storytelling, pulse-pounding action, and socially resonant themes. The film marks another high-profile entry in Apple TV’s growing slate of prestige dramas.
