Ozzy Osbourne, Heavy Metal Icon and Black Sabbath Frontman, Dies at 76

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and a solo pioneer of heavy metal music, has died at the age of 76. The news was confirmed by the Osbourne family in a heartfelt statement:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

No cause of death was given, though Osbourne had publicly battled a range of health issues in recent years, including Parkinson’s disease and complications from spinal surgery.

Known globally as the “Prince of Darkness,” Osbourne leaves behind a towering legacy that reshaped rock music. His work with Black Sabbath in the early 1970s — on thunderous tracks like Iron Man, Paranoid, and War Pigs — defined the heavy metal genre. As a solo artist, he delivered unforgettable hits like Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, and No More Tears, influencing generations of musicians across metal, punk, and rock.

Ozzy was also infamous for his chaotic and controversial life — a man who once bit the head off a bat on stage and who battled addiction for decades. His volatile personal life, including an attempt on his wife Sharon’s life during a drug-fueled episode, became part of rock folklore. Yet, in his later years, he softened into a surprising pop culture figure, beloved for his candidness and vulnerability in the MTV reality series The Osbournes.

More than just a rock star, Ozzy Osbourne was a cultural force — an unfiltered, unrelenting, and unforgettable presence whose voice and persona came to define an era. He is survived by his wife Sharon and their children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack.

The world mourns not just a musician, but an icon who embodied the spirit of rebellion, survival, and raw, electrifying sound.
