Nadiadwala Grandson Marks Two Years of Bawaal, Starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor

Celebrating two years since its premiere, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment took to social media to commemorate the anniversary of Bawaal, a romantic drama that debuted on Amazon Prime Video on July 21, 2023. Sharing a heartfelt message alongside stills from the film, the caption read: “They met by chance, loved by choice, and healed through chaos. 2 years ago, #Bawaal began. And we’ve never forgotten.” The film stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles and was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for his emotionally layered storytelling.

 

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Bawaal follows the journey of a newly married couple grappling with emotional baggage and unresolved conflicts while traveling across Europe. As personal issues unfold against a historical backdrop—including references to World War II—the film attempts to draw parallels between internal and external wars. The unique concept, though ambitious, sparked mixed critical reactions upon release.

 

While audiences appreciated the chemistry between Varun and Janhvi and the film’s emotional arc, Bawaal faced controversy for its depiction of Holocaust-related themes. The Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi criticized the film for trivializing historical atrocities, which stirred debate in both cinematic and diplomatic circles. Despite this, the film found resonance with a segment of viewers for its introspective themes of love, trauma, and healing.

 

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, who shared screen space for the first time in Bawaal, will reunite in the upcoming romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan.
