Decal Releasing Unveils Chilling Trailer for Survival Thriller The Occupant, Starring Ella Balinska

Decal Releasing has dropped the gripping first trailer for The Occupant, a tense survival thriller from director Hugo Keijzer that blends icy isolation with unsettling psychological twists. Starring Run Sweetheart Run and Charlie’s Angels actress Ella Balinska, the film is slated for release on August 8, 2025, and promises a harrowing journey of endurance, paranoia, and the dangerous pull of a mysterious voice on the radio.

 

Balinska plays Abby, a driven and desperate geologist who accepts a lucrative but dangerous mining assignment deep in the wintry wilderness of Northern Georgia. Her motivation is deeply personal: the paycheck will help fund her sister's experimental cancer treatment. But when her helicopter crashes in a remote, frozen expanse and her communication gear is all but useless—except for a single working radio—Abby must fight to stay alive with only a stranger’s voice to guide her.

 

That voice belongs to John (Rob Delaney), a charismatic and seemingly empathetic figure who contacts Abby through the static. At first, his guidance appears to be a lifeline—he claims to understand her fear, her isolation, and her desperation. But as Abby's physical condition deteriorates and hallucinations blur the line between reality and delusion, she begins to question whether John is a rescuer, a figment of her imagination, or something far more dangerous. Stuart Graham also co-stars, rounding out a cast caught between survival instincts and psychological suspense.

 

Written by Philip Michael Howe, Hugo Keijzer, Roelof Jan Minneboo, and Xiao Tang, The Occupant explores themes of isolation, trust, and the thin boundary between hope and madness. With haunting visuals, claustrophobic tension, and an emotional performance from Balinska at its core, the film is shaping up to be a standout entry in the survival thriller genre this summer.
