Shishir Sharma Hails Sant Tukaram as a ‘Boon for Indian Cinema’; Calls Spiritual Biopics a Beautiful Trend

Veteran actor Shishir Sharma has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the upcoming spiritual biopic Sant Tukaram, calling it part of a growing and meaningful trend in Indian cinema. Following films like Phule, this cinematic exploration of historical and spiritual icons, according to Sharma, is “a boon for the Mumbai industry—and the entire Indian film landscape.”

 

Speaking about his involvement in the film, Sharma said, “It is made so beautifully. We didn’t have too many scenes to do—maybe just two or three—but the kind of joy an actor feels doing a film like this is rare. These kinds of films allow you to experience something deeper. And now with Sant Tukaram coming after Phule, I feel it’s a beautiful trend. I hope such films keep getting made.”

 

Directed by Aditya Om and produced by B. Gautham and Rohini LB Singh in collaboration with Purushottam Studios, Sant Tukaram is a cinematic tribute to one of India’s most revered saints and spiritual reformers. The film traces the remarkable journey of Tukaram Maharaj, a man of humble origin who rose to become a beloved philosopher, poet-saint, and spiritual guide—referred to by many as Jagat Guru. His life, deeply rooted in devotion and compassion, continues to inspire generations.
