A Role Very Few Imagined Me In Says Manushi Chhillar On Playing Shalini in Maalik

Manushi Chhillar recently opened up about a transformative experience in her acting career while promoting her latest film, Maalik. The actress, who plays the deeply grounded character Shalini, revealed how director Pulkit’s faith in her abilities challenged preconceived notions and allowed her to explore a fresh, authentic side of her craft. “Pulkit trusted me with a role very few imagined me in,” she said candidly during the Maalik trailer launch in Mumbai, capturing the essence of her journey from newcomer to a serious actor carving her own path.

 

Manushi’s admission reflects both humility and confidence. “When I first heard about the story, I was honestly surprised because the role of Shalini is so rooted and authentic,” she explained. “To be trusted with such a character meant a lot to me.” For Manushi, portraying Shalini was not just another acting assignment—it was an immersive experience that helped her grow. Maalik, directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, is an intense gangster thriller set in 1980s Allahabad. It chronicles the power struggles and survival of characters caught in a ruthless underworld, with Rajkummar Rao leading as the titular protagonist. Alongside Manushi’s Shalini, the film boasts a strong supporting cast including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, and Saurabh Shukla. Set to release on July 11, 2025, the film promises a potent blend of gritty storytelling and compelling performances.
