South Actor Srikanth Arrested in Chennai for Alleged Drug Links, Remanded to Judicial Custody

Actor Srikanth, also known as Sriram Krishnamachari, has been arrested by the Nungambakkam police under the Greater Chennai Police on charges of allegedly procuring cocaine from an international drug cartel. The 46-year-old, known for his roles in Tamil cinema and television, was reportedly apprehended after law enforcement traced connections during a broader investigation involving a drug network.

 

According to reports, the cartel in question also involved a Ghanaian national who was arrested earlier. During subsequent interrogations, authorities uncovered information that pointed to Srikanth’s suspected involvement in the illegal drug ring. The police are now actively searching for another individual, actor Krishna, who is believed to be in Kerala and may also be linked to the case.

 

Following his arrest, Srikanth was presented before a Magistrate at the latter’s residence and has been remanded to judicial custody until July 7, 2025, as the investigation continues to unfold. The case has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, raising concerns over the shadowy overlap between celebrity circles and narcotics operations.

 

Srikanth began his acting career in 1999 with K. Balachander’s television show Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal and transitioned to the silver screen with his 2002 Tamil debut Roja Kootam, which brought him critical acclaim. Over the years, he built a modest but respected filmography in the South Indian entertainment space.
