"I Put Down the Bottle and Picked Up the Weights": Pooja Bhatt on Sobriety, Strength, and Speaking Her Truth

Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt continues to inspire with her honest reflections on sobriety, wellness, and self-reinvention. At a recent public appearance, Bhatt shared a deeply personal insight into her journey: “Eight and a half years of not drinking alcohol and going to the gym and doing strength training is helping. I put down the bottle and I picked up the weights.” Her words, delivered with quiet confidence, resonated with many—especially those who see fitness not just as a physical transformation, but a powerful act of reclaiming one’s life.

Bhatt, who has long been open about her battle with addiction, has emerged as a strong advocate for mental and emotional well-being. Her message is simple but profound: transformation is possible, and it begins with one courageous step. Today, her fitness journey is not just about building muscle—it's about rebuilding self-worth, discipline, and a deeper connection to life. “There’s strength in being vulnerable,” she often says, and her presence radiates that very truth.

Pooja Bhatt made these remarks at The Rabiaz – Walk For A Cause, a unique event that brings together fashion, community dialogue, and social advocacy. Founded by Rabia Patel, the initiative aims to raise awareness around issues like mental health and women’s empowerment through fashion shows, award ceremonies, and public conversations. The event, held recently, welcomed dignitaries including Mahesh Bhatt, Dr. Yusuf A. Matcheswalla, and a group of contestants—all medical professionals—who walked not just for style, but for a cause.

Speaking about her reason for attending, Pooja added, “What moved me last time was the warmth and honesty I saw between Mahesh Saab and Dr. Yusuf. You can disagree—even about difficult subjects like ECT—but still respect each other’s space. That’s the kind of dialogue we need more of today.” With its blend of authenticity, advocacy, and community spirit, The Rabiaz proved once again that change doesn't have to be loud—it just has to be real.
