Nick Offerman Stars in Gritty Father-Son Thriller Sovereign, First Teaser Drops

Briarcliff Entertainment has unveiled the intense first teaser trailer for Sovereign, an upcoming psychological thriller written and directed by Christian Swegal. The film stars Nick Offerman in a rare dramatic role, joined by Jacob Tremblay, Dennis Quaid, Martha Plimpton, Thomas Mann, and Nancy Travis. Slated for release on July 11, 2025, Sovereign dives deep into the troubled waters of radical ideology, familial loyalty, and a son’s quiet rebellion.

 

Inspired by true events, Sovereign follows Jerry Kane (Offerman), an unemployed roofer and single father grappling with financial instability and emotional turmoil. In a desperate bid for control, he falls into the grip of the "sovereign citizen" movement — a fringe ideology that denies the legitimacy of government laws. As Jerry crisscrosses the country with his 15-year-old son Joe (Tremblay), peddling pseudo-legal debt relief schemes, his descent into extremism grows more dangerous, while Joe begins to question everything he’s been taught.
