Monument Releasing has unveiled the riotous new trailer for Hey Viktor!, a sharp, self-aware meta-comedy written by and starring Cody Lightning — the once-rising star of the indie darling Smoke Signals. Now, 25 years later, Lightning is back — not just in front of the camera but behind it — with a bold, irreverent story that skewers fame, flops, and the fragile male ego.

 

In Hey Viktor!, Cody plays a fictionalized version of himself: a washed-up former child actor stuck in the amber of his own past. Once the breakout Indigenous star from Smoke Signals, he's now a bottle-hugging burnout still trying to sell his latest magnum opus — a zombie-priest film no one asked for. When an intervention turns into a chance to reclaim lost glory, Cody hatches a wild idea: make Smoke Signals 2. The only problem? He has no script, no budget, and no Adam Beach. What could go wrong?

 

The cast includes Hannah Cheesman as Kate, Cody’s long-suffering creative partner, alongside Simon Baker, Adam Beach, Gary Farmer, Irene Bedard, and a delightful appearance by Colin Mochrie, adding to the absurdity. What unfolds is a chaotic, cringe-laced production backed by a possibly unhinged investor, layered with dry wit, sharp cultural commentary, and uncomfortable truths about identity and representation.
