Neeraj Pandey Expresses Hope for Continued Success of Special Ops 2

Director Neeraj Pandey, present at the trailer launch of Special Ops 2, expressed his optimism about the new season continuing the franchise’s winning streak. Reflecting on the series’ journey, he said, “Technically it’s not five years, we came up with Special Ops 1.5 in between, but we are back with another installment after 3 years.” He recalled the origins of the franchise, sharing a chance encounter with Udhay Shankar during an IPL game, which sparked the idea for something “special for Hotstar” — a project that ultimately became Special Ops.

 

Neeraj added, “We are very proud that we have lived up to the expectations of the audience over and over again, and I hope it will happen this time around as well. Glad to be back and glad to be talking about it, and now waiting for the audience reaction.” His words reflected both gratitude and anticipation for the reception of the new season, which picks up the high-stakes espionage narrative fans have come to love.

 

Special Ops 2 serves as a sequel to the 2020 original and continues the story from the spin-off Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story (2021). The series stars Kay Kay Menon reprising his role as RAW agent Himmat Singh, alongside a familiar ensemble cast including Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Muzammil Ibrahim, Saiyami Kher, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Prakash Raj.

 

The new season zeroes in on cyber-terrorism, a growing global threat. With artificial intelligence at the center of the conflict, India—being the largest user of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)—faces the risk of a massive data breach. Himmat Singh must rally his trusted team to confront this invisible enemy, where no one is safe and everyone is a potential target. The series will begin streaming on Jio Hotstar starting June 11, 2025.
