Anupam Kher Hails Anurag Basu’s Mastery in Metro In Dino: “A Dream Come True”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who features in the much-anticipated anthology Metro In Dino, recently showered praise on writer-director Anurag Basu during the film’s promotion in Mumbai. Speaking with heartfelt admiration, Kher called Basu “a brilliant director and a wonderful human being,” emphasizing the joy of collaborating on such a meaningful project.

 

“It’s always a pleasure working with him, especially on a project like this, which is about life,” Anupam said. “Even though we’re not part of the other stories, we have lived that life and have a certain sense of it. Working on this film with Anurag is a dream come true for me.”

 

Discussing the emotional depth and continuity inherent in the anthology format, Anupam revealed how Anurag Basu’s clarity shaped his performance. “When Anurag narrated the story to me, he was clear about the emotional graph,” said the seasoned actor.

 

Anupam further highlighted the freedom that trained actors have in bringing authenticity to their roles: “The luxury of being a trained actor is that you can bring the experiences of your life on-screen. It’s not compulsory that what we portray is something we know directly. There is emotional imagination, emotional memory. On the basis of that, we manage a lot of scenes.”

 

“But the whole credit goes to Anurag Basu,” he added. “He tapped into our emotional quotient beautifully.”

 

Metro In Dino, a spiritual sequel to Basu’s 2007 cult classic Life in a... Metro, weaves together four stories of contemporary couples navigating love, challenges, and life in modern India. The film features an ensemble cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher himself.

 

Set to release on July 4, 2025, Metro In Dino promises to be a poignant, relatable exploration of urban relationships—brought to life under the expert guidance of Anurag Basu.
