“I don’t believe in these trends, whether one should follow them or break them,” he said. “Being part of a good film should be the aim. Sequels should be made because of audience demand and love. They like the franchise, and taking those franchises forward makes sound business sense. They are commercially viable for producers. Sequels should be made, but I think beyond franchises and sequels, there should also be investment in original ideas. There has to be a balance.”
Tusshar emphasized the importance of nurturing original content alongside franchise films. “Time should be spent making first-time films, rather than just sequels. Even with parts 1, 2, or 3 of a film, there is always a new story, something fresh is being offered. There is originality. Even though it’s a sequel, it’s not going to be a cakewalk,” he explained. “Whether it’s a remake or sequel, there is inspiration, there is a soul to the film. You have to create something of your own besides following what’s been done before. So, it’s not an easy task bringing the audience, no matter what you do, whether it’s a remake, sequel, or original. Filmmaking is not an easy job. It’s tough bringing audiences into cinema halls.”
