Reflecting on her experience, Monga shared how being part of the jury expanded her own understanding of queer identities. “This is a really important film festival,” she said. “I think one particular class of people’s stories — which everyone should know — are being told here. My vocabulary and understanding of the queer family and community grew. I got to learn.” Her words underline the importance of exposure and education in fostering empathy and inclusivity.
Now in its 15th year, the Kashish Pride Film Festival continues to be a safe and celebratory space for queer filmmakers and audiences alike. Monga noted the festival’s lasting impact on public perception: “Of course, this has supported so many people, and their voices have been carried forward. That’s the most important thing — because here, people are trying to narrate the story of their existence. No one is different. Everyone’s just working hard and making films. Their hard work should be equally fruitful.”
When asked about the ongoing prejudice faced by the LGBTQ+ community, Monga responded with quiet conviction: “To those who aren’t supportive, I would like to tell them — look around in the world. It is a beautiful world filled with beautiful people. And we all are equal.” In an industry where representation matters more than ever, Monga’s words — and her continued support — serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that true storytelling is rooted in humanity.
