Saanand Verma on Fame, Fans, and Feeling Like Amitabh Bachchan: "It Was Like I Saw Sitaare Zameen Par!"

Saanand Verma, best known for his hilariously eccentric role as Anokhelal Saxena in the hit sitcom Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, recently opened up about a surreal moment in his acting journey—one that made him feel like none other than Amitabh Bachchan himself.

During a recent media interaction, Verma shared an emotional memory that he says felt like Sitaare Zameen Par—stars on Earth—and a full-blown Bachchan moment rolled into one.

“The biggest happiness that I remember, which I experienced as an actor, was Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, where I played Anokhelal Saxena. For the first time, I felt that I was bringing happiness to a lot of people. I was visiting Kanpur for an event, and to my surprise, there were 3,000 or more people at the event. The entire Kanpur city was outside because I was there—they wanted to see me, everyone just wanted a glimpse of me. I felt like I was Amitabh Bachchan. They wanted to touch me, get a picture. It was like I saw Sitaare Zameen Par (stars on the land).”

“When 3,000 people’s phones are trying to click a picture and every camera is focused on you, I felt like all the stars from the sky had just landed on Earth. That was the first time I got the feeling that God has made me popular. I am an emotional man, and I just couldn’t get over the feeling for a week. I just cried and cried, and I thought—God, I was no one, I was struggling to put food on the plate, and now I am someone. It was a surreal rise. And after that, God has been kind to me. I didn’t see a single dip in my rise; I’ve just been climbing higher and higher. I have done exceptionally good.”

“My colleagues from Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, they all have just done that one show—except one or two. But I have done 30 films, a couple of mega series. I have done films with noted directors such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Nitesh Tiwari, Anurag Kashyap, and more. And it is my understanding that God has shown a lot of miracles” added Saanand.

And honestly, he’s not wrong. From small-screen stardom to the big leagues of Bollywood, Saanand Verma has carved out an impressive career beyond his beloved TV avatar. With films like Mardaani, Raid, Mission Raniganj, and the upcoming Vijay 69, he’s proven he’s more than just the quirky neighbor with a screw loose—he’s a force of nature.

Whether it’s making fans laugh with his trademark “I like it!” or sharing emotional highs that bring him to tears, Verma’s journey is a reminder of what can happen when talent, timing, and a bit of divine magic align. In his own words, “God has shown a lot of miracles”—and we’re just lucky to be watching.
