The Protector Trailer Drops: Grit, Gasoline, and One Woman’s Fight for Water and Redemption

Post-apocalyptic cinema gets a hard-edged new contender with the release of the official trailer for The Protector, a high-octane action thriller from writer-director Raul Gasteazoro. Set in a future where famine, drought, and water wars have turned America into a cracked and dusty wasteland, the film introduces a brutal new world order where survival comes down to speed, strength, and sacrifice. Grit and gasoline fuel every frame, with children scarce and trust even scarcer.

 

The trailer unveils a world ruled not by governments, but gladiators—where the sport of choice is “Dirt-Joust,” a lethal form of off-road drag racing soaked in sand, sweat, and steel. At the center of it all is Key (played by Wet Hot American Summer's Marguerite Moreau), the only driver to have survived a race without a win. Her reward? A prison sentence, the loss of her wife, and a world that won’t let her forget either. But when an outlaw kingpin named Gael (Graham Greene) offers her a dangerous mission in exchange for freedom, she takes it—because in this world, freedom is as rare as clean water.

 

Key’s target is sacred ground: a Native American reservation hiding the last known freshwater aquifer in the region. The catch? It’s rigged with traps, guarded with lore, and layered with meaning. She’s the only one with the map to get in and out alive. What unfolds is a grimy, relentless chase for survival—set against themes of colonization, scarcity, and redemption. With a cast that includes Jade Tailor, Chris Redman, and Mark Lane III, The Protector feels like Mad Max with a moral compass—and one very determined woman behind the wheel.
