Kamal Haasan Postpones Thug Life Audio Launch Amid India-Pakistan Tensions: "Art Can Wait, India Comes First"

Veteran actor and political leader Kamal Haasan has issued a solemn and respectful statement, announcing the postponement of the audio launch for his upcoming film Thug Life, originally scheduled for May 16. In light of the ongoing conflict at India’s borders and the heightened state of alert across the nation, Haasan emphasized that this is not a moment for celebration, but one for reflection and unity.

“Art can wait, India comes first,” Haasan declared, expressing solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces. In his message, he acknowledged the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers standing firm on the frontlines, stating, “As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration.” He further added that a new date for the event would be announced at a more appropriate time.

Haasan’s decision to delay a major promotional event in the Tamil film industry has been widely seen as a gesture of patriotism and sensitivity during a volatile national moment. The statement reflects his belief that, as citizens, collective restraint and respect are paramount: “At this time, our thoughts are with the brave men and women of our armed forces who stand vigilant, safeguarding our nation. Celebration must make way for reflection.”

Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan in a central role, is one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year. However, with the nation’s attention focused on the situation at the border, Haasan’s message underscores the importance of prioritizing national interest over entertainment, reinforcing his long-standing stance as both an artist and a socially conscious leader.
