Anupam Kher Unveils First Look of Jackie Shroff as Brigadier Joshi in Tanvi The Great

Veteran actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher took to social media to share the first look poster of Jackie Shroff from his upcoming directorial venture Tanvi The Great. In the poster, Shroff appears in a commanding avatar as Brigadier Joshi, a character described by Kher as “larger than life, strong, decisive, and yet compassionate.” The film, a Hindi-language drama, marks a significant collaboration between two long-time colleagues and friends, and is set to make its presence felt at the 2025 Marché du Film in Cannes.

 

In a deeply personal caption accompanying the poster, Anupam Kher spoke fondly of his bond with Jackie Shroff, calling him “a brother from another mother” and revealing their long-standing personal connection. He reminisced about how Shroff’s wife, Ayesha, has been tying Rakhi to him for over three decades. Kher shared that Shroff decided to join the project after hearing a few recorded songs from the film and insisted, “Don’t make this film without me.” The emotional reaction led to his casting as Brigadier Joshi, a character Kher promises will leave a lasting impression.

 

Tanvi The Great is directed by Anupam Kher and jointly produced by Anupam Kher Studio and the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC). The film features a powerful ensemble including Shubhangi Dutt in the titular role, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher himself, and international actor Iain Glen (Game of Thrones). With music composed by Oscar-winning maestro M.M. Keeravaani and lyrics by Kausar Munir, the film is positioned as an emotionally resonant drama rooted in patriotism, resilience, and the human spirit.

 

The film’s debut screening at the prestigious Marché du Film in Cannes in 2025 marks an important step toward global recognition.
