Esha Deol on Her 14-Year Comeback to the Silver Screen: “It’s Like Coming Back Home”

Esha Deol is making her much-awaited return to the silver screen after a 14-year break with the upcoming film Tumko Meri Kasam. The actress, who has been away from mainstream cinema for quite some time, expressed her excitement about this return, calling it a "wonderful feeling" and likening it to a "homecoming." Esha shared her thoughts on this new chapter in her career and the special experience of stepping back into the world of feature films.

 

In a recent interview, Esha spoke about her time away from mainstream cinema and the projects she worked on in the interim, including web series and short films. She reflected on her journey, saying, "Coming back on the silver screen after a while is a wonderful feeling. It's like homecoming... Before this, I worked on web series and short films, and it was a lot of fun working in different mediums. But it was on the silver screen that my career began. Coming back and seeing myself again on the big screen is something I am truly looking forward to."

 

Talking about her character in Tumko Meri Kasam, Esha described the story as something very different from what she has done before. The film, which is based on a true story, features Esha in the role of a defense lawyer. "This story is different. It's a kind of film I've never done before. It's based on a true story, and my character is a defense lawyer. All the characters are relatable, whether it's Anupam Ji's role, mine, Adah's, Ishwak's, all the characters are very relatable. It's an intense human drama that will keep you glued to your seats."

 

Esha also spoke about the thrill of working with renowned director Vikram Bhatt once again. Having previously collaborated with him, Esha shared how much she admires his directing style. "When I worked with Vikram Bhatt before, he told me that it was a human drama, a real-life story. The role of a lawyer immediately excited me. I have always wanted to work with Vikram again. As an actor, it’s a great experience working with a director like him because he draws out the best performances from his actors. He doesn’t just leave you like a prop," she said.

 

Esha continued by explaining how this role felt like a perfect opportunity for her to challenge herself and take on a new kind of work. "Now that I’ve started working again, I want to do something different, something challenging, something that fits my age and offers strong female characters. This role ticks all those boxes."
