I Don’t Focus on Theatrical or OTT, Just a Good Story Matters Says Adarsh Gourav

At the trailer launch of Superboys of Malegaon on Wednesday in Mumbai, Adarsh Gourav, who will be seen playing the role of Nasir Shaikh, spoke candidly about his experience with the film and his deep connection to the character. Reflecting on the honor of portraying Nasir Bhai, he shared, “It’s an honor for me to play the character of Nasir Bhai. I am fortunate to have met him, spent time with him, and learned so much about his life. Before we started shooting the film, we spent a lot of time in Malegaon, exchanging stories. I got to learn about his life, met his friends, and his family.”

 

Nasir Shaikh, who has built a legacy over the past 20-25 years, has been a major figure in Malegaon, and Adarsh feels privileged to bring his journey to life on screen. “Nasir Bhai has created a legacy that people in Malegaon still follow to this day. I feel fortunate to have gotten this role, and I want to thank Reema, Zoya, Ritesh, Farhan, and Varun for this opportunity,” he said.

 

When asked about the pressure of expectations of a film releasing in theatres, Adarsh admitted he was nervous but for a different reason. “Yes, I am nervous, but not because there are high expectations for this film to be a massive success. It’s because when so many people come together in a theater to watch the film, it feels different than when you watch it on OTT at home. After 8-9 years, a film of mine is releasing in theaters... The last film of mine to release in cinemas was Rukh in 2017. I’m nervous because this feeling is new for me, and I hope I can pass through this phase.”

 

While reflecting on the difference between theatrical and OTT releases, Adarsh mentioned he doesn’t focus too much on the platform. “I don’t think about theatrical or OTT. Whatever comes my way, I take it. What matters is that the story is compelling. We spent so many months with the character, living with it. The process is the same. Whether it's OTT or theatrical, you put in the same effort. I value the people I work with—my writers, director, and co-actors—that’s what makes the experience magical.”

 

'Superboys of Malegaon' directed by Reema Kagti will hit the cinemas on 28 february, 2025.
